A four member search committee, headed by noted academician, Prof Amitabh Mattoo was constituted by the late Chancellor Mufti Muhammad Sayeed for the appointment of IUST Vice- Chancellor. "We can't go through the process till new Chancellor takes over," said Prof Amitabh Mattoo.
Earlier on October 28 last year, the University had also invited applications, nominations from the candidates aspiring for the post in the university. "The Search Committee constituted by the Chancellor is seeking applications with intent to widen the search process," reads a circular signed by the Registrar of the University.
The nominee as per the rules, aspiring for the post should have academic and administrative skills besides a vision with proven leadership qualities, administrative capabilities as well as teaching and research credentials. "The candidate should have outstanding academic record throughout and a minimum of 10 years' experience as Professor in a University system or in an equivalent position in a reputed research or academic administrative organization," the circular reads.
The last date for submission of nominations was November 30, 2015 with attached with full curriculum vitae as well.
As per the officials, the appointment of Vice-Chancellor was likely to take place in second week of February 2016 as the tenure of the incumbent Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdul Rashid Trag would end later this month.
Prof Amitabh Mattoo, who is heading the search committee, said the committee was about to shortlist the names of the candidates however the process was halted following the death of the University Chancellor.
"After inviting applications we were going to meet the shortlisted candidates but the process stands postponed," he said, adding the names of around three-four candidates were to be shortlisted for the post. "And then Chancellor was supposed to pick one among them."
He said the search committee has to wait for the for government formation to appoint the new VC for IUST.
Besides Prof Mattoo other members of Search Committee comprise of former Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University, Professor Jalees Ahmad Khan Tareen and VC Jamia Hamdard Dr G N Qazi.
Prof Mattoo said academicians of national and international reputation have applied for the post of Vice-Chancellor at IUST. "We have received around 60 applications including people from within and outside the state," he said.
