Various separatist organizations and leaders have expressed grief over the demise of Lassa Khan of Sonabrari, Kokernag in Anantnag district who breathed his last yesterday, and paid him tributes. 

Expressing shock over the demise of Lassa Khan, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. 

In a statement, Geelani said Lassa Khan had suffered numerous tragedies throughout his life and his death has shocked the entire nation. "I appeal people to protect and respect the huge sacrifices of Lassa Khan like souls and don't harm the mission of our martyrs." Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders Bashir Ahmad Qurashi and Sheikh Muhammad Ramzan participated in the funeral prayers of Lassa Khan and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

Hizbul Mujahideen chief, Syed Salahuddin Sunday paid tributes to Lassa Khan who passed away on Saturday.

In a statement issued to KNS, Salahuddin called Khan as the 'shining pillar of freedom struggle who sacrificed his sons but didn't lose courage."

"Khan had sent a message to me through a militant informing me that he had lost everything and now it is our responsibility to not allow anyone to sell these sacrifices," Salahuddin said.

Lassa Khan's three sons and a nephew – militants at different times–were killed by forces, while his younger son and another nephew were also slain, reports said.

Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front has also paid tributes to Khan. "Lassa Chacha and his family are symbols of sacrifice. This family sacrificed six of its sons for freedom and this is why nation of Kashmir is indebted to them," JKLF ailing chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik said today during his visit to Sonabrari. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family. He was accompanied by Front zonal president Noor Muhammad Kalwal, zonal organizer Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri and Muhammad Amin Magloo.

Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman has expressed condolence over the demise of Lassa Khan and sympathized with the bereaved family.

Recalling the contribution of the deceased, Hurriyat (M) spokesman said he had sacrificed every luxury of life for the future of Kashmir. The spokesman prayed for peace to the departed soul and patience to the bereaved family to bear the loss. 

Expressing his grief over the demise, Jammu Kashmir National Front chairman and Hurriyat (G) leader Nayeem Khan said Lassa Muhammad Khan was the proud father who gave his four sons and two nephews to the sacred cause of freedom. 

In his condolences to the bereaved family of Lassa Khan, Sheikh Musaib president Islamic Students League has termed the whole family as 'an inspiration and epitome of struggle and sacrifices vis-a-vis freedom movement.'

Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement chairman Zaffer Akbar Bhat today paid tributes to Lassa Khan. Praying for the deceased, Zaffer said that contribution of Lassa Khan will serve as torchbearer for whole Kashmiri nation.
