Expecting mother waits for evacuation as snow blocks Tangdhar road
A high-risk expecting mother is waiting to be airlifted to Srinagar from Tangdhar area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district as only surface link of the area is closed due to snowfall for past three days.
Zubaida Begum, wife of Khalid Mehmood of Gabra village was referred to Srinagar from Sub District Hospital Tangdhar on Monday as doctors say that she needed specialised post-operative treatment.
"It is a very complicated delivery case and needs specialised post operative treatment and there is no gynocologist in the Sub-district hospital Tangdhar," says a doctor there.
The Block Medical Officer (BMO) Mohammad Yusuf told Greater Kashmir that they had requested for an army helicopter to airlift the woman to Lal Ded hospital in Srinagar.
"We had called for a helicopter but we have heard that it is not able to cross the Sagdhna Pass due to inclement weather," he rues.
Meanwhile, the only surface link, Chowkibal-Tangdhar road is closed from past three days due to snowfall.
More than five-feet snow has accumulated on the road even as snow clearing operations were on during past few days.
