The authorities here have booked a drug peddler under Public Safety Act PSA).
Riyaz Ahmad Ganai son of Muhammad Jabbar of Nassu village, who has been running a road side Dhaba at Badragund in Qazigund area near Srinagar–Jammu highway, was detained by police on charges of selling drugs and narcotic substances.
The accused, police claimed, is a habitual offender and had been booked and arrested in past too by Qazigund police.
"Ganai was involved in selling illicit liquor, codeine phosphate, Fukki and other banned substances to the youth of the area as well as drivers," Superintendent of Police (SP) Kulgam, Muhammad Irshad, said.
He said that Ganai was booked under various sections related to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
"The accused despite getting bail many times did not stop trading in illegal substances and hence booking him under PSA became imperative," said SP, adding that Ganai has been shifted to District Jail Kathua.
Earlier, two liquor smugglers from Qazigund area were booked under PSA.
People have been accusing many Dhaba owners, dotting Srinagar-Jammu highway from Qazigund to Pampore, of selling banned substances.
"We have tightened the noose around the drug mafia and will strictly act against drug peddlers and smugglers," SP further said.
