The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Dr. Asgar Samoon on Saturday hit out at teachers and asked them to be honest to their profession.

"Corruption is not all about embezzlement in money. We have 90 percent locals registered in BPL category but we don't have local laborer available here," Samoon said at a function organised in Handwara.

"Teachers also resort to corruption when they don't attend classes from 10 am to 4pm. When teachers don't teach students in school, that is also corruption," he added.

He said the education department has around 70,000 teachers but most of them don't teach in the schools. "Some people have hijacked the whole system."

Samoon was speaking at a felicitation function organised by Joint Efforts Trust (JET) at community hall Handwara, run by Independent MLA from Langate constituency.

"Knowledge is always holistic. We have talent among students which needs to be honed," he said and urged the students to shun away from hitting roads or pelting stones.

He said the training institutes like DIETs and SIE in education department were misused in the name of trainings with the result the institutes don't serve the purpose they are meant for.
