A four-year-old child who went missing last month in this South Kashmir district was found dead today in a stream, police said.

The body of Ayaan Hamid, son of Abdul Hamid Shah of Dooru area was recovered from the stream near Rehmat-e-Aalam hospital and St Lukes School of the town, said a police official.

He said the boy, according to prima facie evidence, died due to drowning.

"We were informed by the locals that a body  of a kid has been found. On reaching the spot we saw the body on the stream bank," said SHO, Anantnag Aadil Ahmad.

He said the family identitied kid's body.

"The post-mortem of the body was conducted at District hospital Anantnag. No external injury marks were found which indicates that it is a case of drowning," he added.

Ayaan had gone missing from his relatives' place at Pehroo village in the outskirts of the town on March 22. The place from where the body was recovered is located some 4 Kilometers downstream-Pehroo.

Police had launched searches and last week isueed a look out notice was also issued  to locate the missing kid.

A case FIR 70/16 under section, 363 RPC (abduction) was also registered. 

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of a 2-year old girl, Areesha Afroz daughter Afroz Ahmad Bhat from Seer area who went missing on March, 19 are yet to be known.

Though a case under FIR no 16 US 363 (abduction) stands registered , however, the investigations reveal that the girl might have also drowned in a stream.

"The statements from family and locals reveal that she had been frequently moving towards a nearby stream," a police official had said.

The sniffer dogs had also lead police towards the stream.

However, despite assistance from  marine squad, the body is yet be fished out.

Pertinently, Islamabad had observed spontaneous shutdown on March, 23 to protest the mysterious disappearance of the two kid, They were demanding immediate action by police.
