Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is in New Delhi, met Defense minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday, amid escalating tension in Kashmir over killing of three persons, including a woman, in firing by army in Handwara yesterday.
Mehbooba is scheduled to meet several union ministers before calling on Prime Minister Narendra Modi later during the day.
An official, however, said Mehbooba's meeting with Parrikar was already scheduled.
"There is no confirmation yet on whether the Handwara killings came up for discussion during the meeting," the official said.
Mehbooba would also meet Union Minister for Housing and Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to discuss several stat-specific issues.
She would seek inclusion of Srinagar and Jammu cities in union government's smart city project in her meeting with Naidu and press for widening the scope of cross-LoC trade and travel during meeting with Swaraj.
Mehbooba is scheduled to call on the Prime Minister later in the afternoon before winding up her maiden Delhi visit after taking over as the Chief Minister.
