Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday ordered the suspension of an Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) over "personal complaints against him".

ASI Mohammad Rafiq has been placed under suspension but it is not related to firing incident in Handwara," said Uttam Chand, DIG North Kashmir.

"He has been placed under suspension because of some personal complaints against him."

However, a communication sent by the office of the District Magistrate Kupwara to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, a copy of which lies with Greater Kashmir, suggests that Rafiq was suspended due to "negligence of duty".

The communication was sent after civil society met the district administration in Kupwara following yesterday's firing incident in which three people, including a woman, was killed.
