Shamim Ahmad Shamim remembered

To commemorate the 36th death anniversary of celebrated writer, journalist and parliamentarian, Shamim Ahmad Shamim, Urdu Weekly Pukaar today organized a function at Seminar Hall of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages here in which the life and work of the late journalist was highlighted.

To commemorate the 36th death anniversary of celebrated writer, journalist and parliamentarian, Shamim Ahmad Shamim, Urdu Weekly Pukaar today organized a function at Seminar Hall of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages here in which the life and work of the late journalist was highlighted.

Shamim, whose 36th death anniversary was observed today, is generally known for his writings in his immensely popular weekly, AINA.

Presided over by GM Bhawan, the function began with a welcome address by Member Legislative Council and former Secretary JKAACL, Zafar Iqbal Manhas. Describing late Shamim as a torch-bearer for the younger generation, Manhas said that the thought provoking speeches made by the late parliamentarian on the floor of state legislature and in the Parliament are arguably the best pieces of parliamentary discourse.

Editor Chatan, Tahir Mohiudin, noted physician and associate of Shamim, Dr. Abdul Wahid and Zafar Iqbal Manhas were also in the presidium.

Describing Shamim as a personality of diverse traits, columnist, Aijaz-ul -Haque called upon the younger generation to emulate the late journalist as far as his openness and critical analysis of socio-political events was concerned.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Tahir Mohiudin, Dr Javaid Iqbal, and GM Bhawan.
