In a shameful act the teachers of Government Middle School in a village in Dooru area were spotted forcing their students to ferry rice bags meant for mid day meals.

The complaint filed with the Chief Education Officer ( CEO), Anantnag showed the photos and videos of children of Government Middle School (GMS), Aadi Dehruna unloading the rice bags from a truck and then ferrying it inside the school during working hours.

The children in school uniform who are seen carrying the huge rice bags weighing more than 50 Kilograms are mostly students of primary and middle.

The mid day meal scheme is the school meal program of Government of India designed to improve nutritional status of school children. "It has become the common sight that students are being made to do labor work in their schools by teachers," said the villagers. They demanded stringent action against the erring teachers.

"While on one hand the education department makes tall claims about abolishing child labor – but on the other hand they promote same in the schools," said the villagers.

Meanwhile, acting on the complaint – Zonal Education Officer ( ZEO)- Dooru placed eight teachers under suspension. " I instructed the concerned ZEO to look into the matter who has placed eight of the teachers from school under suspension," said CEO, Anantnag (Islamabad), Ghulam Rasool Shah.

He said that further inquiry has also been initiated.
