Jammu and Kashmir Unemployed Physical Education and Sports Association (UPESA) has urged the government to implement the decision that declared sports, games and physical education as compulsory in schools.
As per UPESA, an order in this regard was issued vide No. 68 Edu/Tech of 2005 dated 16-05-2005.
"As per the decision, the sports, games and physical education was declared compulsory in all Middle, High and Higher Secondary schools. The Youth Services and Sports department had last year announced that the physical education will be made compulsory for 6th to 8th standard from the academic session 2015-16 but same has not been implemented so far," Showkat Ahmad Khan, general secretary of UPESA said.
"As many as 6000 posts of physical education teachers can be created to meet the demand in uncovered Middle schools. This will not only help education department but also ensure employment to youth," he added.
