Joint committee of University Teachers Associations of Kashmir, condemned "disproportionate" use of force against unarmed civilians and sought immediate ban on use of pellet guns. 

In a statement, spokesperson of the amalgam said "the Committee expressed serious concern over the disproportionate use of force against unarmed civilians and sought immediate ban on the use of pellet guns and release of all employees and detainees. The committee also pressed for a lasting resolution of the longstanding issue of J&K in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state," the statement said. 

The spokesperson said the committee comprises representatives of the Associations of Universities in Kashmir—Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA), SKUAST Scientists and Teachers Association (SSTA), SKUAST Veterinary Scientists Association (SVSA), Islamic University Faculty Association (IUFA) and Central University of Kashmir Teachers Association (CUKTA). 

The statement said it has been decided that President KUTA shall function as the Chairman of the Joint Committee while the Presidents of the other Associations shall function as Vice-Chairmen.
