The Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) associate, Nisar Ahmad Mandoo Sunday announced his resignation from the party.
Addressing a presser at his residence at Chitrashahi,here, Mandoo termed the continuous civilian killings in Kashmir as 'unbearable'.
Mandoo who has "served the party for past 17 years" said he had sought resignation from the basic membership of the party today.
Citing civilian killings and "anti-people" policies adopted by "RSS-backed" BJP-PDP collation in Kashmir as reason for his resignation, Mandoo called it "a day after 17 years with PDP."
Mandoo who has been working with PDP since its inception in 1999 has been one of the key persons in establishing PDP cadre in Srinagar.
"The PDP I had joined in 1999 endeavoured for political empowerment and restoration of people's dignity and honour, but PDP today is breaking all records of oppression and tyranny," Mandoo said adding that he could not side with the "facilitators of this bloodbath."
He said that "exit of workers and senior members from the PDP is likely to intensify in the coming days."
Mandoo said he had decided to resign from the party due to the current unrest during which more than 80 people were killed while thousands of civilians were maimed.
"I didn't resign from the party to follow pursuit of MP Tariq Hameed Karra (sic) but took the decision keeping in view of the present situation in Kashmir. I was not pressurized by anyone over taking such kind of decision. The continuous civilian killing in Kashmir is unbearable," he said.
Mandoo ruled out that he would be joining any other political party in near future.
