Even after passing of 13 years Army is yet to pay the rent for the land occupied by them at Paribal village in this north Kashmir district. 

As per the documents available with Greater Kashmir Army's 27 RR Unit has occupied 198 Kanals of land on a hillock in Paribal area of Aloosa tehsil here. Out of the 198 Kanals, 113 belongs to State while 85 Kanals belong to locals.

A Revenue official told Greater Kashmir that Army is bound to pay the rent both to the state and to the local land owners whose land is under their occupation since 2003. "As per the assessment out of 85 Kanals of land belonging to local land owners Army has to pay the rent for 58 Kanals since 2003. They also have to pay the rent towards the state for 113 Kanals of state land under their occupation since 2003," he said.

Pertinently, Army had occupied the land spread over 198 Kanals in Paribal hillock In Aloosa tehsil of the district in 2003. Since then they haven't paid any amount as rent either to state or to the local land owners.

Documents available with Greater Kashmir reveal that Army has to pay an amount of Rs 16, 04992 from February 2003 to February 2013 and onwards to the land owners whose land is under their occupation.

"As per the assessment by Army and revenue department Army has to pay an amount of Rs. 1,79245 from 01-02-2003 to 15-02-2008. From 16—2-2008 to 29-12-2009 the payable amount was Rs. 6,32347. From 30-12-2009 to 15-02-2013 the amount paid was to be Rs. 3,78760 and from 16-02-2013 onwards the payable amount was Rs. 4, 14640. Since 2003 the total payable amount as rent by 

Army towards the local land owners for 58 Kanals becomes 16,049920," the documents reveal.

A revenue official said that the rent assessment has been done only for the land belonging to local land owners.

Meanwhile, Srinagar based Army spokesperson, Col Rajesh Kalia said the concerned department has been informed to look into the matter.
