Nine children were injured after they were bitten by stray dogs in Kanegund and Kandoora villages of Beerwah Sub Division of Budgam district in central Kashmir.

According to locals, the children were returning from their tuition centres when a group of stray dogs attacked and injured them outside the village.

Nine-year-old Humza Manzoor was severely injured as he has been bitten on face, said a local, Muhammad Ashraf.

All the injured were rushed to Beerwah hospital for treatment.

Block Medical Officer Beerwah, Dr Bashir Ahmad Khan said that all the children were discharged after being administered anti-Rabies injections.

"One among them, Humzah Manzoor, 9, was referred to Medical College Srinagar as he had a grade first injury on his face."

Locals said that the dogs have been on a biting spree for past more than a week after a truck full of stray dogs was unloaded in the area.

"We are reluctant to move out of our homes due to these stray dogs and it is very difficult to reach hospitals in case of any untoward injuries during these days," a group of locals told Greater Kashmir.
