Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir placed top separatist leaders under house arrest in Kashmir on Monday to foil a sit-in called to highlight plight of prisoners in the Valley.
Senior separatist leaders Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Asiya Andrabi, Hilal War and Shahid-ul-Islam were placed under preventive detention.
While Mirwaiz Umer, Asiya Andrabi and Islam were placed under house arrest, Malik and War were shifted to the Central Jail and Kothibagh police station.
Meanwhile, restrictions have been imposed in and around Gaw Kadal and Maiusma areas to prevent the sit-in.
The sit-in called in Maisuma area adjacent to the Lal Chowk was to highlight plight of prisoners in different jails of the state. (With IANS inputs)
