The newly appointed Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Ghulam Nabi Itoo on Monday said the department will focus on academic improvement and bridging gaps between the students and the department.

Talking to Greater Kashmir soon after assuming his charges as DSEK, Itoo said the department will also put in efforts to improve the infrastructural conditions of the schools across Kashmir.

"Student is my first priority and to reap good results I will try my best to provide favorable atmosphere to my teachers which will enable them to hone the school going children," Dr Itoo said.

On Saturday J&K government ordered  posting of GN Itoo as new DSEK relieving Kumar Rajiv Ranjan who has been posted as Deputy Commissioner Jammu.

About the recent protests by the school children, Itoo said the students will be motivated and will be made accessible to the authorities by way of bridging gaps between the students and department.

"We will talk to students, address their grievances and motivate them to focus on academics," he said.

Itoo said efforts will be given to improve the degree of transparency in functioning of the department and improve the delivery system as well.

"We will install CCTVs to ensure transparency in the department and stress will be given to maintain punctuality of teaching and non teaching staff in the department," Itoo said. He said the biometric attendance of teaching and non-teaching staff will be enforced in the department. "I have passed the direction to enforce bio-metric attendance," he said.

About the tendencies, he said a feedback was sought from employees of the Directorate about the pending issues and files for which the process will be expedited.

"We will track files on daily basis which will improve the delivery system," he said.
