A wreath laying ceremony for policeman Mahmood Ahmad who died in a militant shootout last evening in Anantnag, was held at DPL Kulgam today.
DIG SKR Anantnag, S. P Pani led Civil, police and CRPF officers in laying the floral wreaths, a police handout said.
SP Kulgam Shridhar Patil, ACR Kulgam, other senior Police and CRPF officers, and his family members were present and paid floral tributes to the slain cop.
Ahmad lost his life in a brief encounter between police and militants at Al-staff Malpora late last evening. In this incident five persons including three civilians and two police men were injured, the handout said.
Later, the body was handed over to the NOK's for last rites with salutary respect.
The deceased is survived by his old aged parents, wife and two boys— one a 9 year old, and another an 8 month old.
While extending his condolences to the bereaved family on this occasion, DIG SKR S.P Pani directed all the concerned officers to render every possible assistance to the family.
