The Amarnath yatra was suspended from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes on Friday due to overnight heavy rainfall and forecast of inclement weather.
Thousands of Amarnath pilgrims had reached Baltal base camp to start the 14-kilometre long trek to the cave shrine on Friday morning.
However, the yatra was suspended due to overnight heavy rainfall and inclement weather forecast, said an official.
"The yatra has been temporarily stopped because of bad weather and slippery road conditions. The yatra will resume only after the weather improves and the latest weather forecast from the meteorological department," said SSP Ganderbal Fayaz Ahmed Lone.
