Emotional scenes were witnessed at Pahloo village here today as hundreds of people bid tearful adieu during the funeral of local militant, Parvez Ahmad Mir, who was killed in an encounter at Tral.
Militants appeared in the gathering and gave gun salute to the slain militant. As the body of Mir reached his native village Pahoo last night, people came out of their houses and held massive protests. Pro-freedom songs were played from loudspeakers at many places in the area.
The protests continued for the whole night. However, thousands of people from different areas reached Pahoo in the morning and participated in the protests.
The body was later taken to the central Jamia masjid where thousands of people including men, women and children assembled and raised pro freedom slogans, witnesses said. Thousands of people participated in the funeral prayer which was held twice in Pahoo. The body was later taken to Nadoo, the ancestral village of the slain militant, for burial. As they reached near Pahoo, some militants appeared in the gathering and after kissing the body, fired in air to give salute. "They fired several rounds in air and left from the spot, witnesses said.
Later the slain militant was buried at about 11am. A complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama district to mourn the killing. Business establishments including shops remained closed for the whole day and passenger transport was off the roads.
