Video| Congregational prayers allowed at Jamia Masjid after six Fridays
Congregational Friday prayers were offered at historic Jamia Masjid today after remaining barred for six consecutive weeks.
Witnesses said that siege was lifted from the areas surrounding the mosque in downtown Srinagar today.
A large number of people offered prayers at the mosque today, they said.
The state authorities had locked the gates of the grand mosque for the past six weeks by not allowing people to offer prayers at the mosque.
The Jamia Market also came back to life as shopkeepers were allowed to do the normal business after eight weeks.
Meanwhile, there were no restrictions in and around the downtown area of Srinagar on Friday.
Hurriyat (M) chairman and chief priest Mirwaiz Umar Farooq remained house arrest, however, he delivered a telephonoic address to the people.
