A meeting of prominent clerics was today held in this district, which was chaired by Mirwaiz of South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir.

At least 150 clerics including Moulana Mubarak from Rehat Dedi Masid, Altaf Nadwi, Mufti Zia ul Haq from Bjbehara, Umar Attari and Showkat Noorpuri from Tral, from Shopian Mufti Tariq, attended the meeting.

The clerics unanimously resolved to fight for the religious and social rights of Kashmir people. 

The clerics passed a resolution to work on a common programme and formed South Kashmir clerics and preachers association.

The clerics condemned braid chopping incidents. Mirwaiz Yasir while commenting on it said, he has access to medical reports where it has been mentioned that sprays have been used against the victims, a statement here said. 

Earlier, Police, according to the statement, had raided the house of Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir in the morning, however he was not at home. 

The meeting, according to the statement, was interrupted by the Police, and the Mirwaiz was later detained. The clerics condemned the police action.
