Government forces allegedly ransacked houses of “active” militants in Shopian district of south Kashmir last night and detained some of their relatives.

Government forces allegedly ransacked houses of "active" militants in Shopian district of south Kashmir last night and detained some of their relatives. 

Reports said that forces last night barged into and ransacked the houses of active militants in Safanagri, Baba Khidhar, Turkawangam and Malikgund villages of Shopian district, allegedly beat the inmates and vandalized the property.

Sources said that some family members of the militants were also detained by the forces during the raid.

Local residents staged a protest in Safanagri against the "ransacking and detaining of family members of the militant."

"The forces barged into our house last night, beat up inmates, and damaged property including TV sets, fridges, utensils and everything and picked up our two family members including father and brother" one of the family members of the victim family in Babakhidar said. 

"They damaged property and later arrested the father, the uncle and a guest from the house" a local resident of Turkawangam said. 

SSP Shopian A S Dinkar said that they are checking the facts about the incidents "but I did not get any report or complaint regarding any damage or ransacking by the forces in any house."
