The State Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the government into the killing of a woman, Rubeena Jan (Beauty Jan), recently.
Dilshada Shaheen, member SHRC, while hearing a petition, directed the deputy commissioner and SSP Shopian to file a report before the commission into the killing of Beauty Jan on 19 December, after considering rights activist MM Shuja's petition seeking investigation into the killing of the woman at Batmura village of district Shopian.
The petitioner has asked the commission to constitute a thorough probe into the killing, preferably through its own investigation wing "so that those responsible for the killing of the innocent lady are brought to book".
The petitioner further states: "The magistrate under whose orders the firing was ordered also needs to be booked under law and the family of the victim should be compensated." Beauty Jan was inside her home when a bullet hit her in the abdomen.
"There is neither any allegation nor any suggestion that the deceased lady was a part of protesting mob but was in her own house. The incident suggests that the forces were indiscriminately pumping and spraying bullets unmindful of its consequences," the petition said.
