A shutdown is being observed in Soibugh village of central Kashmir's Budgam district against the killing of a local resident by forces near Air Force Station.
An eye witness said that all shops and other business establishments were closed after the news of death of Syed Habibullah spread in the area. Public transport also went off the roads, he said.
In a statement, earlier today, a police spokesman had said that a "mentally-challenged" person was shot dead after he entered the security zone area at Air Force Station Budgam around midnight.
"He crossed the security fence and came close to the station perimeter wall. Despite repeated warning from the sentry the individual did not stop. The sentry fired some warning shots in air but the individual did not stop. The sentry fired towards him," said the statement.
"Spot examination revealed that the individual of about 50-55 years of age who appears to be mentally challenged has died in the incident. The person being identified is not wearing foot wears, is without proper winter clothing and has no identity card (sic)."
Local sources said that Habibullah, a resident of Astanpura locality of the village, had left his home yesterday.
The deceased was a father of six children.
