Kangan returns to normal after six days of mourning

Normalcy returned to Ganderbal district’s Kangan area after six days of continuous shutdown against the killing of a local by government forces.

Contingents of forces were also withdrawn from the area that were deployed to scuttle any protests by people after the killing.

Commercial establishments opened, while transport also plied in the area.

The situation in Kangan and adjacent areas had turned tense after the killing of 23 year old Gowhar Ahmad. Sensing the gravity of situation, state government ordered suspension of a cop involved in the killing of Gowhar, while chief minister Mehbooba Mufti herself also visited the bereaved family and assured them of justice.

Meanwhile, another 22 year old Mohammad Amir Lone of adjacent Chattergul village is battling for his life in SKIMS Soura hospital, who was also injured in forces action.
