Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani was today again barred from offering Friday prayers.
"Authorities barred Geelani Sahab from offering congregation prayers at Hazratbal Shrine. He was stopped after he defied house arrest restrictions. As soon as he moved towards Hazratbal here to offer the prayers, he was prevented by a heavy contingent of police deployed outside his Hyderpora residence," a spokesman of the Hurriyat said in a statement.
"Authorities have unleashed fear by laying curbs, denying religious obligations and detaining leaders, the government has been denying them to stage peaceful protests," the spokesman quoted Geelani as having said while addressing a gathering near the main gate of his house.
He said, "Kashmiris will continue with their struggle till the goal is achieved. Instead of facing leaders on political turf, the rulers are being caged on frivolous charges. But we will never surrender or succumb to pressure but will pursue our cherished mission till it is taken to its logical end."
Geelani expressed his satisfaction over the overwhelming response from people for Youm-e-Kashmir and Youm-e-Alqudus, saying "For the past 70 years the Palestine and Kashmir issues were neglected. The response of people for endorsing resolutions is a welcome step and encouraging."
He asked the people to stay away from upcoming elections.
Geelani demanded peaceful resolution of Kashmir and Palestine issues according to the wishes and aspirations of the people and expressed his deep concern over opening of foreign affairs office by American authorities in Palestine, saying "America and its brainchild Israel with their military might and political influence are depriving Palestinian people from their birth right."
Geelani expressed grave concern over the genocide of innocent people of Palestine at the hands of Israel's fascist forces, rejecting what he termed as the US hegemony to accept Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Meanwhile, the resolution framed by the JRL was read and passed unanimously in almost all Masjids and shrines across Kashmir amid a pledge that the struggle of Kashmiri people for the right to self-determination will continue on all fronts till the final goal is achieved, the Hurriyat (G) spokesman said.
