Wildlife Week Programmes organized in Pulwama

With an aim to create awareness among school children and common masses about the need for nature and wildlife conservation, a two day awareness programme was held at at Tral and Khangund areas of Pulwama district, an official said.

With an aim to create awareness among school children and common masses about the need for nature and wildlife conservation, a two day awareness programme was held at at Tral and Khangund areas of Pulwama district, an official said.

He said these programmes were conducted by Department of Wildlife Protection in collaboration with Directorate of School Education and WWF – India. "These programmes had a very special focus on the state bird and state animal of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. During these programmes experts from the education department also oriented the students about the need to protect medicinal plants which is also a very important component of our wildlife," the official added.

Speaking on the occasion, wildlife warden Shopian, Ifshan Dewan informed the gathering about various protected areas of the state incluiding Pir Panjal region.

She also deliberated about the various issues protected areas are facing today, and called upon everyone to join hands to protect t unique wildlife of the state.
