Unknown persons stole a power transformer from a village in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district last night.

Unknown persons stole a power transformer from a village in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district last night.

Reports said that a 250 KV transformer from Tehlipora locality of Harran village in the district was stolen during the intervening night of 24 and 25th December.

The theft of the transformer has plunged the area into darkness.

An official told the Greater Kashmir that it seems the thieves have used bulldozer to lift the transformer.

Executive Engineer, Power Development Department Ganderbal, Javed Ahmed told Greater Kashmir that the transformer was installed alongside a road in the area and fed power to around 75 domestic consumers in the area.

"As soon as we got the information about the theft we immediately informed police and our higher ups about the incident," he said adding, "We have requested the deputy commissioner Ganderbal and SSP Ganderbal to investigate the matter and nab the involved miscreants" Ahmed said.

Station House Officer, police station Ganderbal Arshid Ahmed said that they are investigating the theft.
