A near total shutdown was observed in southern Shopian district for the third straight day on Tuesday to mourn the militant killings.
Last week, a top Al Badr militant commander Zeenat-Ul-Islam and his associate Shakeel Ahmad Dar were killed in a brief firefight with forces in neighbouring Kulgam district.
Shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained shut. The traffic was sparse on the roads. Mobile internet service also remained shut in the area.
The mourners continued to visit Sugan and Chillpora, the native villages of Islam and Dar respectively to pay condolences.
The villages had raised plastic banners with pictures of different militants killed in recent years during fire-fights with the government forces.
