Police have ordered a probe after a video purportedly showing two cops manhandling a woman at a village in south Kashmir's Shopian district went viral on social media on Sunday morning.
The fifteen second video purportedly shows two policemen "hauling a woman inside her house". The incident has taken place in Karewa village here on Saturday night.
However, a police spokesperson in a statement said the police had received a complaint from a man alleging that his minor daughter was kidnapped with the intention of rape by a married person (name withheld) from Shadab Karewa.
The spokesperson said as a police party raided the house of the accused to recover the abducted girl they found "two other accused (names withheld) in the house."
"While trying to effect the arrest of these accused, the other family members including the women attacked the police party to prevent them from effecting the lawful arrest of accused and successfully managed the escape of one of the accused," the police statement said, adding that three policemen suffered injuries in the attack.
It said: "The video surfaced on the incident is being probed and an inquiry is ordered to examine the conduct of the policemen."
