District level officer in Kupwara attached for ‘misleading’ election authorities

District election officer Kupwara Anshul Garg Saturday ordered attachment of district youth services and sports officer Kupwara Ghulam Hassan Sheikh for allegedly misleading the election conducting authorities.

As per the order Sheikh has been charged with passing a"false communication of attaching an official vehicle, which was (in fact)found parked in the premises of his relative in the north Kashmir Kupwaradistrict."

As per the order, a copy of which is with Greater Kashmir,some vehicles of different departments were attached with the district electionoffice on March 22 for conduct of Lok Sabha elections. "The officers ofdistrict were impressed upon to realize the sensitivity for conduct ofelections smoothly and render their full cooperation for accomplishment of theelection process," the order says.

"The district youth services & sports officer Kupwarahas been found evading the orders of this office by not complying with theorder and instead he has tried to mislead the authorities by forwarding a falsecommunication with regard to the attachment of vehicle by the office ofdirector youth services & sports," reads the order.

The order reads: "Based on information that the delinquentofficer has parked the official vehicle at the residence of one of hisrelatives at Bumhama, Kupwara, a team of officials was deputed who later tracedthe vehicle and photographic evidence in this respect was recorded."

The officer in order to escape identification of the vehiclehad "removed its rear side number plate" and according to the DEO the act"amounts to mala fide on part of the officer".

"This behaviour of wilful negligence towards the complianceof official orders (is) tantamount to dereliction of official duties andviolation of instructions of Election Commission of India."

The DEO Kupwara ordered his immediate attachment and hasasked the additional deputy commissioner Kupwara to conduct a "thoroughenquiry" and furnish the report within 15 days to his office.
