Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Bashir Ahmed on Wednesday denied reports that the department has issued any order saying that beneficiaries shall get ration from their respective sale depots via biometric system only.
Speaking with Greater Kashmir, the Director said that there is no such order has been issued by the department and that the consumers should be able to get ration without biometrics system at government ration stores.
"The ration will be provided to everyone without biometrics, people should not panic" the Director assured.
The Director added that the department is upgrading and updating the Aadhar for identification, where the family has to authenticate the head of the family for the purpose.
Earlier, some consumers had alleged that they were told that they shall get their ration from their respective sale depots via biometric system only, where the ration card holder has to put their thumb impression on the machine.
The consumers had demanded that the biometric system should be suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent possibility of spread of COVID 19 which can easily spread through touch of objects like bio-metric machines.
