Two militants were killed and two army soldiers injured in a gunfight in Kanigam village of south Kashmir's Shopian district, reports said on Saturday.
A senior police officer told news agency GNS that two militants were killed in the gunfight that began yesterday afternoon. The bodies of the slain were recovered from the site of the gunfight, but their identity is yet to be ascertained.
The officer further said that the operation was suspended late night due to darkness and was resumed today morning.
Two army soldiers were injured yesterday as militants tried to escape from the cordon.
The gunfight broke out after a joint team of Police, Army's 44 RR and the CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Kanigam.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering a gunfight.
