3 youth arrested in Sopore

Police on Saturday said they have arrested three over ground workers of Jaish- e-Muhammad in Sopore area of Baramulla district.

SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal said that on 25 January militants threw a hand grenade on SBI camp of CRPF, however the grenade missed the intended target and exploded outside the camp.

   

“During the course of investigation three individuals were detained by police for questioning, namely Ghulam Qadir Rather of Tarzoo, Aijaz Ahmad Khan of Naseem Bagh and Owais Khalid Dar of Nageenbagh Krankshivan Colony Sopore,” he said. 

The SSP said that during questioning, “involvement of these three individuals surfaced who confessed the commission of offence.”

“It was revealed that the JeM based in Sopore provided 2 grenades to these individuals for throwing on the security forces to cause life damage/injury to security forces personnel/installations and to instil fear psychosis among the general public,” he said.

“Moreover one grenade was recovered from them. Accordingly they have been formally arrested in the case,” police said, adding that investigation of the case is going on and more arrests are expected.
