During the past 24 hours, government forces launched a string of Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) in twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian in southern Kashmir. Three youth have been detained in Pulwama during one of the operations.
A police official said that on late Thursday night the forces laid a siege around Karmabad locality of Pulwama and searched a cluster of houses.
According to the local residents, three youth have been detained during the search operation.
They are being quizzed for their alleged role in several stone-throwing incidents, a senior police official at Pulwama told Greater Kashmir.
In the neigbouring Shopian district, joint teams of army, CRPF and SOG men laid a siege around Ganowpora and Arshipora villages on Thursday night, following the inputs about the presence of militants in the area, police said, adding that a door-to-door search operation was launched to hunt down the militants.
Similarly, forces on Friday ring-fenced the Turkawangam and Reshipora villages of the district and launched a search operation. “The operation was launched after forces received inputs about the presence of militants in the area,” a police official said.
The official said that the operations in all the four villages were called off after no militant was found in these areas.
