30 houses damaged after avalanche hits Gurez in north Kashmir

At least 30 residential houses were damaged after an avalanche hit Khandiyal village of Gurez valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district late last night.

An official said that at least 22 houses were completely damaged after the avalanche hit the area at around 9:30 pm last night.

   

He said around eight houses, several cowsheds and some shops were also partially damaged due to the avalanche.

He said that the village is located some five km from main Dawar tehsil of Gurez. 

“There is a lack of communication in the area. We are still collecting the details about the damage caused by the avalanche,” said a senior police official of the district.

He said no loss of life was reported in the incident.
