Security forces on Friday busted a module of LeT outfit and arrested four militants and five militant associates in Handwara and Sopore areas of north Kashmir, police said.
Superintendent of Police, Handwara GV Sandeep Chakravarthysaid based on specific information about three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) ofLashkar-e-Toiaba (LeT) outfit “actively involved in motivating youths to joinmilitant ranks”, a joint team of security forces and police raided differentlocations and arrested the trio.
The arrested OGWs have been identified as Azad Ahmad Bhat ofShalpora Langate, Altaf Baba of Babagund Rafiabad and Irshad Ahmad of SilkoteUri.
He said arms and ammunition besides letter pads of the LeTmilitant outfit were recovered from their possession.
“During their interrogation, it surfaced they havesuccessfully recruited four local youths in the LeT outfit and provided themarms and ammunition. They also revealed that the active militants are operatingin the Handwara area of Kupwara district” said Chakravarthy.
He said based on the information provided by the arrestedOGWs, a joint team of police, army’s 21-RR, 30-RR and 92 Battalion of CRPFraided Gund Chogal village in Handwara and arrested four militants of the LeToutfit.
The police identified arrested militants as Parvaiz AhmadChopan, Mudasir Ahmad Pandit, Muhammad Rafi Sheikh and Burhan Mushtaq Wani –all residents of Langate area in Handwara.
“Three AK-47, eight AK-47 magazines, 332 rounds, 12grenades, three pistol, six pistol magazines and 24 pistol rounds wererecovered from the arrested militants” said Chakravarthy.
In another incident, based on a specific information,police, with the assistance of 22-RR and 179 Battalion of CRPF launched asearch operation at Sadiq Colony Sopore.
During the search operation, two militant associates of LeToutfit were arrested. The duo has been identified as Waseem Ahmad Gojri andJunaid Rashid Ganaie – both residents of Sopore.
