At least six persons were injured in clashes with protestors after a local driver was allegedly thrashed by the police here in Takipora Nasullapora area of Budgam district.
Locals said on early Saturday morning the police personnel stopped a tripper driver and thrashed him. They also alleged that police damaged windowpanes of many houses and beat up several people there. "Local police conducts nocturnal raids and beats our children. They beat them mercilessly and ransack our properties," said a women protester.
However, police officials said that the tipper driver was carrying illegally extracted soil. "We asked the driver to stop, but he didn't budge. Instead he fled away from the spot and rammed his vehicle against the wall," said a police official.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Haroon Malik has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. There is a complete ban on the illegal extraction of soil from Budgam Karewas.
