A Government Degree College (GDC) in DH Pora area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district has no regular faculty for 1922 students enrolled for different streams offered by the College.
This was revealed in a written reply by the state government to a query raised by MLA Abdul Majid Paddar in the ongoing budget session of the State Legislature.
Paddar had sought information about the present status of the Government Degree College DH Pora along with its staff strength including permanent faculty members as well those engaged on contractual basis.
In the written reply the government said no regular faculty has been recruited in the Colleges for 1922 students enrolled in 12 different subjects taught in the College.
As per the government figures the College has around one sanctioned post for each subject taught in the College however no person has been posted against these available vaccines on regular basis.
However the sanctioned 12 posts, as per the government figures are utilized by engaging the candidates on Academic Arrangements besides one candidate is engaged on basis of availability of pool funds of the College.
The subjects taught in the college include English, education, Urdu, Sociology, Political Science, Islamic Studies, Mathematics, Environmental Science, History, PTC and Librarian.
To a query when the Science and Commerce streams will be introduced in the College, the government said, "The Scincen and Commerce can be introduced in the College once the requisite infrastructure and parameters are achieved fully."
The college as per the government reply was functioning on make shift basis however has been recently shifted to its own campus.
Despite being shifted to its main campus the work on the construction work of the College is yet to be completed.
"The work on the academic block has been completed however finishing work on Boys and Girls toilet is under progress. The finishing work of Library block in terms of sanitary and electrical work is also in progress," reads the government reply, adding that the work on boundary walling and leveling of ground is in progress however is likely to be completed by November this year.
The government in its written reply said the construction work of the Government Degree College, DH Pora was assigned to the Public Works Department at an estimated cost of Rs 944.96 lacs, against which an amount of Rs 620.00 lacs was released by March this year.
"The balance funds have been projected under the Capex Budget 2016-17," reads the reply.
