AAC decries house arrest of Mirwaiz

A crucial meeting of Awami Action Committee attended by senior members, activists, and office bearers was held at the party’s head office Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal. 

Party chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq could not attend the meeting as he continued to under illegal house arrest, AAC spokesperson said in a statement. 

   

The meeting expressed its strong resentment against the government’s decision of caging AAC patron and Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman time and again and not letting him out even on the auspicious occasion of Mehraj Alam when Mirwaiz was to address the religious gathering at Aali Masjid which has been the tradition of Mirwaizeen since decades. 

“The meeting said that barring Mirwaiz to address the religious gathering left thousands of people disappointed and angry. The meeting termed barring Mirwaiz from carrying out his religious obligations as condemnable interference in his religious rights and the duties as the Mirwaiz,” the statement said,

The statement said the meeting termed the rape and murder of 8-year-old Kathua girl as gruesome and heart wrenching 

“The demand of every segment of society of the state that culprits involved in the girl be hanged. The meeting made it clear that whether it is the issue of justice for the girl or any issue related to injustice or harassment of the people of Jammu, Chenab Valley, Rajouri and Poonch the people of Kashmir and leadership will always stand with them,” it said. 

“Kashmir was reeling under worst form of repression and state terrorism especially the southern districts of the Valley where intimidation and harassment by the Government forces continues to loom large. The meeting said Kashmir’s young are being selectively targetted under the well-planned strategy through bullets and pellets,” it said. 

“The meeting strongly condemned the recent bloodbath in Kulgam district where four youth including two teenagers were brutally massacred, more than 100 peaceful protesters showered with pellets and many residential houses and shops razed to ground,” it said.

“Paying rich tributes to all the martyrs of Kashmir AAC reiterated its pledge to safeguard the mission of martyrs and to intensify the efforts for the Right of self-determination of the people of J&K,” it added.
