Aadhar census survey concerns local residents in Charar

The residents of Charar-i-Sharief Township in Budgam district on Thursday expressed concern over the Aadhar based census survey being conducted by Municipal committee of Charar.

The local residents termed the survey exercise suspicious and a violation of their privacy.  “Adhar details should not be shared with anyone except in cases of services like Bank account or SIM Cards and Municipality committee officials have no right to conduct any Adhar census in the town,” said Bilal Ahmad, a local resident.

“Some municipal committee persons were doing door-to-door survey in the town, seeking Aadhar details but when I confronted them by asking them to produce the order authorizing them to conduct the survey, they could not produce it,” said Iqbal Ahmad, another local resident.

Officials in the municipal committee Charar-I-Sharief told Greater Kashmir that they will stop conducting Aadhar Based census in the town. “The residents sometimes seek birth and ward-wise certificates from our department and that’s why we are conducting the census and seeking details,” said an official. “Please don’t highlight this story as we will stop conducting any Aadhar Based Census in the town in future.”
