The administration on Friday ordered closure of all markets except essential service shops in the district, amid the Coronavirus threat.
“In exercise of powers vested in me under NationalDisaster Management Act, 2005 and rules thereof, I…hereby order that allshops/markets (except for groceries, fruit & vegetable shops, dairyoutlets, medical shops, petrol pumps and other establishments providing foressential commodities) in the jurisdiction of Shopian shall remain closed tillMarch 31, as an effective action/response mechanism in mitigating thetransmission of COVID-19 ” said an order issued by the DeputyCommissioner.
It said any violation of the order will invite punitiveaction under relevant provisions of law.
Though most of the shops and other establishments remainedclosed, however, soon after the congregational prayers, the forces personnelwere deployed at several places especially at entry points and they stoppedtraffic from entering the town.
