Al-Badr militant arrested in Handwara in north Kashmir: Police

A militant affiliated with Al-Badr outfit was arrested in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday, police said.

“One militant of Al-Badr outfit was arrested in Handwara along with arms and ammunition,” police said on Twitter.

   

In a statement, a police spokesman said that Sajjad Ahmad Dar of Rohumu Pulwama was arrested in a joint operation by the police, CRPF and the army.

“On specific information a joint Nakka of Police/Army/92 CRPF was laid at Chutipora crossing (Handwara) at 1430 hrs. During checking, a suspicious person was intercepted,” he said.

A pistol and two grenades were recovered from his possession, said the spokesman, adding that Sajjad had been missing from his home since October 3. “A report to the effect had been lodged in Police Station Rajpora, District Pulwama.”

He said Sajjad has recently joined Al Badr militant outfit. “A case has been registered in this regard at Police Station Handwara and the investigation has been set in motion.”

The arrest comes just a day after the killing of a Tehreek ul Mujahideen militant in Sagiopra area of Handwara last night.

The slain, identified as Naseer Teli, was a resident of Arampora area of Sopore in Baramulla district.
