Anantnag shopping complex awaits completion for 17 years

In 2004, the Urban Local Bodies took over the construction of a shopping complex in the Anantnag town.

Seventeen years on, the project is still incomplete.

An official said that the funds were stopped on the project in 2009 due to which work remained on halt for a long.

“The work resumed in 2015 after the project cost was revised to Rs 19.28 crore from the earlier Rs 8.65 crore,” he said.

An official said that the work on the project had again been abandoned. Locals said that once the construction was started, the government invited people to deposit money for the booking of shops.

“We are still waiting for the shops to be allotted,” said Zahoor Ahmad. He appealed to the district administration to complete the remaining work on the complex.
