Anjuman-e-Auqaf condemns closure of Jamia Masjid for Friday prayers

Srinagar, Dec 17:AnjumanAuqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar expressed deep regret over the continuous closure of the historic Jama Masjid, Srinagar, the spiritual centre and the largest place of worship in Jammu and Kashmir, for the 19th consecutive Friday.

A statement of the Anjuman issued here said like previous Fridays, the authorities and Police once again Friday morning stopped the Auqaf employees from opening the doors of the Grand Masjid.

“As a result, the people having come from different parts of the city as well as remote areas were deprived of offering Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid, thereby preventing them from performing their religious obligations and hurting their religious sentiments,” the Anjuman said.

It also expressed resentment against the detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq saying that it was unfortunate for all sections of people that their topmost religious leader was being detained and disallowed from delivering Friday sermons at the Jamia Masjid.
