Three militants killed, two soldiers injured in Kulgam gunfight: police
Srinagar June 30: Three militants of The Resistance Front (TRF), which police say is a self-claimed offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed while two Army soldiers were injured in a gunfight with security forces in Chimmar area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday, police said.
The gunfight broke out this afternoon after a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Kulgam Police, 18Bn CRPF and 09RR in the said area.
As per a police statement, as the presence of militants was ascertained, they were "repeatedly appealed to surrender, however, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search parties in which two Army soldiers got injured".
The duo was later airlifted to a Srinagar based Army hospital for treatment.
In the meantime, the security forces retaliated the firing by militants leading to an encounter, police said.
As per police, three militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They were identified by police as Waseem Ahmad Bangroo, resident of Redwani Kulgam, Shahnawaz Ahmad of Kilbal Shopian and Zakir Bashir, a local from Chimmer Kulgam where the gunfight took place.
Police said all the three slain militants were affiliated with LeT outfit "( self claimed TRF)".
As per police, Zakir had recently joined the outfit.
The trio, police said, were involved in various militancy related incidents.
"Incriminating material" including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter, police said adding a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in this regard.
