Society of Dental Surgeons (SDS) has condemned the alleged 'unparliamentarily behavior' of legislator Er Abdul Rashid during his visit to a health center in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
SDS, in an emergency meeting held under the chairmanship of president SDS Dr Imtyaz Banday, strongly condemned the legislator's behavior with medical staff and asked the legislator to apologise for his behavior, said a spokesman, in a statement.
"The speech amounts to threat rather than streamlining the health system which is already understaffed, overburdened and works on roster system to make health institutes functional," the statement quoted Dr Banday as saying.
He said that the legislator on one hand in his video accepts the human resource problem "but simultaneously issues a threat and especially to the medical staff."
Explaining the absence of a staffer during the legislator's visit to the health center, the association said the concerned doctor who was marked D in the attendance of NTPHC Monbal, Kupwara was reportedly undergoing Skill Lab Training officially and that he should be in no way blamed for "which the legislator made hue and cry."
"The legislator rather to making a hill out of a mole should have appreciated the concerned doctor who is trying his best to run the institution single handedly and simultaneously attending skill development trainings," the statement said.
It said the mandate of NTPHC is much lower than the PHC and simultaneously there is dearth of staff who are working under a roster set up across state.
"Making almost every institute to run 24×7 without requisite creation of Human Resource has made the functioning herculean and at the cost of health of Health Personnel working under tremendous stressful condition," it said.
"The displeasing comments of Er Rashid have discouraged the medical fraternity to the core. As such SDS is aghast and deeply hurt and demands for an open apology from the Hon'ble legislator otherwise a state wide protest against him will be launched," the association's statement added.
