Army fires aerial shots, detains 2 youth

Army patrolling party resorted to aerial firing after youth pelted it with stones at Batmaran village in Shopian district on Wednesday evening.

A witness told Greater Kashmir that after army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles patrolling vehicle entered Batamaran village, local youth pelted it with stones. The army soldiers in retaliation resorted to aerial firing to disperse the youth.

   

“The army left the area after the clashes not before they picked up two youth and later handed them over to police,” said a resident. 

A senior police official told Greater Kashmir that no search operation was launched in the village. An army patrolling vehicle was passing through the village when some youth attacked them with stones. “Army exercised restraint and fired a few aerial rounds to disperse them. We have also detained two youth,” he added.
