Army-police top brass discuss ways to prevent Kashmir militant recruitment

The top brass of army and Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday held a meeting in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district to discuss ways to control the militant recruitment.

Talking to reporters, Srinagar based General Officer of Commanding 15 corps, Lt General AK Bhatt said: “Our main purpose to meet today was to (discuss) tackling the militant recruitment in Kashmir.”

   

On a question on ongoing gunfight near Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, he said there was an infiltration attempt by militants in Kupwara but was foiled by the army.

“So far as LoC is concerned, an operation is going on. An infiltration attempt was foiled by army. Now we are searching for the remaining militants in the area,” he said.

Director General of Police SP Vaid, who also attended the meeting, said that the meeting was held with ground level officers to review the situation in Kashmir.

He also said that it was discussed what could be provided from the headquarters so that the situation in Kashmir is brought back to normal at the earliest.

The meeting was also attended by Inspector General of Police, Kashmir SP Pani.
